Studio du Verre offers a full range of stained glass classes of six students where you may learn the different methods of doing stained glass. We have classes for beginner's copper foil and lead came. More advanced techniques such as glass fusion, glass slumping, and painting on glass can be learned in a private tutoring class, which can be adapted to each student's specific needs.

You have the choice of two types classes for beginners: copperfoil and lead came. The descriptions and dates are detailed below. The two techniques use different approaches but either class can be a great starting point for developing your own stained glass skills.

PLEASE NOTE : With the number of participants limited to a maximum of six, places are filling up quickly! When a class becomes full, we try to tack on another one.

In the Copper Foil course, you will make a stained glass panel (about 8" by 10") with your teacher, using the Tiffany copper foil technique. You will learn to trace your glass, the art of cutting glass, the grinding, soldering techniques and finishing patinas.

​​In the Lead Came course, you will learn how to assemble a panel using lead came and how to solder and clean your panel like a professional. Additional complexity can be introduced for intermediate learners. There is a growing demand for lead classes. Leaded windows are the traditional method and most of the historic homes and buildings in Montreal use this technique. This is the method our studio uses in its own creations and to restore projects.

Are you stuck? Is there a technique you would like to perfect? Or do you simply want another set of competent hands to help you with something difficult? Private classes are available for all aspects of stained glass.

Private classes are available for a 2 hour minimum charge (materials and kiln firings extra)
1 person - $65/hour
2 people - $95/hour
3 people - $125/hour
N.B. For specialty classes such as Fusion or Glass Painting, there will be an additional cost of $60 for each firing of our 21" x 41" kiln.
FUSION AND SLUMPING - private sessions
Fusion is the technique of partially melting glass together in a glass kiln to join different elements seamlessly. Glass slumping is when art glass is placed over a glass mold and placed in a kiln. When the temperature is hot enough, the glass will soften and then 'slump' into the mold.
Students can choose their design, cut glass and add glass frit, and stringer embellishments to create their unique piece. When the piece is ready, students will prep the piece for a flat firing in the kiln overnight.
If slumping is also desired, the student will choose from a variety of molds - bowls, square dishes, sushi dishware etc. Fired glass are then placed on their respective molds and set in the kiln for the final slumping firing.
GLASS PAINTING - private sessions

In this painting class, students will learn the traditional technique of painting on glass to create more intricate and classic pieces. After choosing from a variety of designs, the student will cut and paint the glass. Finally, the piece will be fired to produce the final product.
This class prepares the student for assembly in a home studio, where your next masterpiece awaits you!
